Volleyball Suffers First RMAC Defeat

Silver City -- It almost happened Friday and it did occur on Saturday ... the WNMU volleyball team dropped their first game of the year to an RMAC team. Friday's lackluster play almost let Adams State sweep the Mustangs on their home court and that lethargic play returned Saturday night as CSU-Pueblo knocked Western (12-3, 5-1) off in four games -- 29-31,27-30,30-22 and 22-30.

"Everyone gets up to play No. 1 and all of these teams are good, said WNMU volleyball coach Jim Callender. "There are no nights off and we have taken two of them this week," Our girls played great volleyball last weekend, but our play at home this week left a lot to be desired. I will remind them of that in practice this week."

It was a tough night defensively for the Mustangs with Western's power hitting duo of Jennifer Snowbarger (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa High School) and Megan Watson spending most of their time on their heels. Snowbarger managed just 13 kills on 43 attempts against Pueblo, racking up 19 digs. Watson had 10 kills on 32 attempts. Melanie Tang (Honolulu, HI/Mary Knoll High School) recorded 23 digs.

All the offense seemed to belong to Pueblo, as Amy Lacy and Samantha Connelly racked up 20 and 16 kills respectively.

The Mustangs start a six-game road swing next weekend as they travel to Durango for a meeting with the West Division's No. 2 team, Fort Lewis.
